I love the change of seasons and typically my excitement starts to build around a thrift store find.
This fall these boots have got me thinking (beyond thinking...kind of giddy) about fall layers.
These boots below are my second pair of Dr. Martens. Both were purchased at thrift stores, but the first had leather that was so hard they hurt my feet. Typically I have an easier time with pre-loved shoes or boots because they have already been broken in.
My daughter inherited that first pair almost immediately.
I thought my Dr. Martens' days were over based on comfort but my love of a chunky militant boot never fades.
I found these at Green Street Consignment in Lambertville this past week looking as though they were barely worn.
They are "Air Wair" Dr. Martens with bouncing soles and unlike my first pair, they are super soft.
I can "feel" these on my feet when I wear skirts with tights & funky socks. These, along with the spicy smell of fall (cinnamon, cloves, fire places burning) get me excited for my favorite season. I love September into November. It is the start of "nesting" season.
These boots were $60, but actually cost me nothing. Each season, I bring in clothes I am not wearing as much or may have tired of to Green Street.
Instead of getting paid cash, I have a consignment tab. Typically, it is around a hundred dollars depending on what I trade in and how many times I bring in trade. Sometimes I pick up things at other thrift or church stores and trade those in too.
I love knowing I have a tab at a really well run thrift store. Sometimes if I am a little down, I can breeze through and find something I love....or just window shop.
I also enjoy knowing that I am not encouraging mass produced "fast clothing".
I want to be a part of something lasting. I want to do the repair work and the leg work to appreciate something that once belonged to someone else, who also valued quality and sustainability.
What gets you excited about fall? I hope it is as simple as a pair of thrifted boots.
xo.
