Workshop details:
WE are our own Forever Home: Creating Tall & Small:
For three full days, we will explore the theme of being “our own forever home & our own wild and beautiful garden”. These are words I wrote years ago to express the idea that “home” is a place deep inside us.
On a 6x18 stretched canvas, we will build “our home” out of pieces of canvas and thread. Using a full exploration of mixed media, we will build up our foundation with paint, pastels, fabrics, photo transfers, water soluble fiber, tape transfers, encaustics, pencils, ephemera and old photos. This workshop is all about the magic and possibilities of mixed media.
There will be lots of slow stitching as metaphors to the homes we have lived in over our lives as we create windows, roofs, openings and gardens.
We will also further explore the idea of safety, joy and comfort as we create a Tiny Sacred Art journal using the leftover bits and pieces on our work area.
I will be bringing along lots of photo negatives of homes and people to use the cyanotype process & the California sun to explore “home” in fabric that we can patch onto our clothing.
These three days of creative escape also include a group treasure hunt to Art From Scrap Creative Reuse Store! Swoon!!!! This is my favorite reused art store on the planet!
What to bring:
-Bits of things you save. These are the pieces you place inside the pages of books & tuck away in drawers. Maybe when you did this, you may wonder why you saved them; but now it becomes clear. For me these pieces are feathers, bits of metal on the ground, old letters & photos, or a little bit of fabric, etc.
-Copies of photos done on a LASER printer. These can be color or black & white and easily made at a copy center. These are for photo transfers.
-clear packing tape.
-A wide open heart
