* Here is a link to Darcy's site for more information. This workshop will be held in her beautiful art studio. xo.
Imagine a vintage paper box that once held a moment in time safely. There might a label on it with a peek into its’ past; maybe it held rivets, beads, or tiny light bulbs. Whatever it once held becomes part of a unique story that we are now telling. There might be bits of metal in the corners that keep it all together. This will be our canvas. We will deconstruct to reconnect, peeling back both the old box and little bits of ourselves.First we soak and peel back the layers, revealing unexpected surprises.
There will be edges spilling out, and random stitches...with threads exposed.
As we re-assemble these precious pieces, they will become our edges. Each repair and layer is a portrait in time of each of us…separately and as a collective as we create side by side. This workshop will include several techniques: Various photo transfers processes, cyanotypes, water soluble fiber, slow stitching, thread stories, encaustic wax and storytelling. No experience necessary.
What to bring to the workshop:
- Bits of things you save. These are the pieces you place inside the pages of books & tuck away in drawers. Maybe when you did this, you may wonder why you saved them; but now it becomes clear. For me these pieces are feathers, bits of metal on the ground, old letters & photos, or a little bit of fabric, etc.
-Copies of photos done on a LASER printer. These can be color or black & white and easily made at a copy center. These are for photo transfers.
-An old box from your basement, attic, or flea market. Ps. I will have plenty of these to share. I had saved a box of my mother’s for twelve years. This was my first box book. If you have a nostalgic smaller size box (up to 5x7) bring it.
-A wide open heart
