Indigo & Exploration: a long spring weekend deep dive into cyanotypes and mixed media
Join me Thursday, May 19th through Sunday, May 22nd, 2022 for a 4-day workshop at my studio, 949a Mirror Lake Road, Yardley, PA
We will take a deep dive into one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography and stretch the possibilities of what is possible using our imagination.
We will experiment using our own images (from our own photographs), paper cut outs, vintage negatives, and farm flora on different types of fabric and paper. Mixing solutions as well as using pretreated materials will be part of our process.
We will look closely at cyanotypes through the lenses of mixed media using water soluble fiber and cut paper to make unique compositions.
Although all cyanotypes are a beautiful blue, we can tone and alter our outcomes using tea, coffee, and other means.
All of our work will be linked together through threads, stitching, paper and storytelling to create one of kind art journals, wall art or a banner. Also, please bring along any clothing you would like to add some cotton 'cyanotype love' patches onto...maybe a skirt or a pair of jeans or a shirt.
I cannot wait to share what I have learned with you about the cyanotype process. Everything I do in my studio starts out with the question 'what if?'...
With a 237-acre historic farm as our backdrop, we will work outside and inside my magic studio cottage to get out our heads and into our hearts. I will be sharing the ways I inspire the words for my artwork using special prompts that are both written and visual.
There will be plenty of work areas set up outside and inside so we can safely play & experiment.
We will begin with a candlelight dinner on the farm *outside my cottage studio, under twinkle lights* on Thursday evening. Friday is a full creative day in and outside the studio. Saturday begins with a field trip and treasure hunting and then back to the studio for lunch and to create. Sunday we gather again as we finish and share all the gifts of the weekend. My studio will become your studio for a long weekend. We will work outside on the farm as the leaves fall in the fresh air beside my Australian bell tent just outside my cottage studio.
Our long fall weekend together includes:
- Endless art supplies and inspiration.
- A bundle of inspiration put together just for you.
- Dinner on the farm, three studio lunches, snacks and bottomless coffee and tea.
- Two different projects, using the cyanotypes we created: one altered pages journal and one creating a piece of forever wall art. Both will open your heart up as we create using the materials around us, in my studio and on the farm, using many mixed media techniques. We will be doing all types of photos transfers, layering, painting, sewing on paper, stream of conscious writing and experimenting with water-soluble materials and fibers.
- On Saturday morning, we will treasure hunt through an out door flea market and explore a favorite river town searching for ephemera and goodness to use at the studio and to bring back home. Don’t be surprised to find hidden treasures inside the treasures.
Ps. I will send out a list prior of a few things for you to bring along with you. xo.
→ Travel and lodging are not included. I have a list of some wonderful, close and reasonable places to stay. Please send any questions you have to me: firstname.lastname@example.org

These questions sometimes arise...
What unit of measure do you use?
All product measurements are listed in inches.
What is the "small word add-on?"
The small word add-on allows you to add an additional small (6-8") cardboard or plastic word to your order. The small word will be the same as your large word.
How do I hang the salvaged words?
I use the little foam squares from AC Moore or similar craft stores. They fit perfectly behind the words and also add a great dimension. They do not harm paint. In my studio I have some that have been up for years.
I also love to lean the words...over a doorway, a window, or on top of a picture. The dinner table is a favorite place of mine. I use clear squares if I hang the words on a mirror.
Can salvaged words be outside?
The salvaged plexi words can, yes! And they float in water. The last little words are salvaged cardboard and should be kept indoors.
I want a word I do not see on your website. Can you make it for me?
Oh yes. You can order that right here.
I have a phrase I would like made. Can you do that?
Happily. Just email me directly.
When will I receive my order?
Prints will ship out in 1 to 2 business days. Hand-scripted words ship within a week. Custom orders (e.g., Your Word and Your Name) will be processed in 1 - 3 weeks.
Shipping rates and times are based on package weight and destination...you'll be able to view and select the best option for your purchase at checkout.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes...a whole bunch. Please expect delivery to take longer than noted above as packages will be making their way across mountains, sand, or sea.
What about refunds and exchanges?
If an order arrived damaged due to shipping, please contact me.
Where can I see/buy your work in person?
You’ll find my environmentally friendly artwork in healing spaces and private collections across North America and Europe, as well as in galleries and shops in the Northeast United States. Take a peek at my portfolio, browse the shop, join me at an event, and share in my creative process.
I'd love to carry your work...
